We are thrilled to have seven ArtistWorks artists nominated for GRAMMYs this year! This is definitely a record for the most nominated in a single year, although many have won in the past. We're proud of all of them and so to honor these fine musicians, here’s a look at the different albums nominated from our artists this year. 

It’s no surprise that Bryan Sutton's name is on the list of GRAMMY nominees this year, and it comes on the heels of winning his 8th IBMA Award for Guitarist of the Year. Into My Own features some top bluegrass musicians and also showcases Bryan's evolving songwriting and singing abilities. As Bryan puts it, it’s a record only he could make, and it's nominated for Best Bluegrass Album.  

"I'm really proud of this GRAMMY nomination. I put more work into this record than any other I've made and the music on it is really representative of my goals right now. It's reaffirming to receive this kind of recognition." - Bryan Sutton 

This would make Bryan's fourth GRAMMY Award if he wins, having won in 2006 for "Best Country Instrumental Performance" for his duet with Doc Watson, and in 1999 and 1998 for "Best Bluegrass Album" with Ricky Skaggs And Kentucky Thunder.

Mike Marshall 

This would be Mike Marshall's first GRAMMY if he wins, but certainly not the last. Click here to read more about their self titled release, which is nominated for Best Classical Compendium. Here's what Mike had to say:

"It is such a joy to celebrate with my long time friends the Turtle Island Quartet this GRAMMY nomination. I was living in the same neighborhood in Oakland, CA when this band was just beginning. It was just an interesting idea, to create a string quartet that could really swing, that had great jazz improvisational chops and a deep understanding of many musical styles in each member. To have witnessed their 25 years of groundbreaking recordings now, and to have seen them change the course of string playing history has been a thrill. It was always a dream to some day record a project together and see how my mandolin might fit into that sound. And here we are, tuxedos in tow, going to the GRAMMYS... Wow!" - Mike Marshall 

"What sweet confirmation it is to be up for a GRAMMY with Mike Marshall for the recording we made together, a joy in the making, at times felt like the proverbial falling off the log, other times, a eye-opening challenge as to how hard it could be to reach the level called for as per our collective dedication to stylistic integrity. A true learning immersion, and it is immensely gratifying that the academy saw fit to honor us with this nomination. - David Balakrishnan, Turtle Island Quartet

Jason Vieaux 

Our classical guitar instructor Jason Vieaux's 2014 album PLAY was highly reviewed and includes beautiful arrangements of Spanish, Mexican, South American, Cuban, French, and American classics from a wide variety of composers. Nominated for Best Classical Instrumental Solo, this would be Jason Vieaux's first GRAMMY. Here's how Jason feels about it:

"Well, I'm thrilled, of course. I've been very fortunate to have a management, PR firm, and record label that support me for the records I want to make, the programs I want to play, and projects I want to promote. That PLAY is recognized by the NARAS voters gives me more confidence to continue going with my gut and stay the course." - Jason Vieaux

Nathan East 

Although he's been playing bass on big name records for decades, Nathan East has been on fire in the past couple years. A documentary titled "Nathan East, For The Record" has just been released which features interviews with some of the many prolific artists he's recorded with over the years. After playing bass on Daft Punk's Grammy Award winning album last year, Nathan released his self-titled debut solo album in 2014, which soon shot to #1 of the charts and propelled him into the spotlight. 

We spoke with Nathan East last time he was in our studio about his new album (among other things), and here's what he said about the songs:

"I wasn't one of these kind of bass player that wanted to make a real shred record, for whatever reason. Because those guys are out there, and I respect them immensely, but I feel like that's what they do and I kind of bring another thing to the table." - Nathan East

Although he's played on GRAMMY Award winning albums in the past, this would be Nathan's first GRAMMY award - he's nominated for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album, along with our next artist.

Chuck Loeb 

Also nominated for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album, is our jazz guitar instructor Chuck Loeb, along with Jeff Lorber and Everette Harp, for their album Jazz Funk Soul. This would be Chuck's first GRAMMY if he wins - here's what he had to say about the project:

"It was a thrill to work with two musicians that I have admired for so long, and have great respect for: Everette Harp, and Jeff Lorber. Recording the album was so much fun, and it had a very spontaneous feeling, which truly came across in the music. Sometimes things just click, and I just love the way the CD came out. So now to be recognized by our peers with the GRAMMY nomination makes me very, very proud, and I sure hope we can pull off a win!" - Chuck Loeb

​Luis Conte

Our percussion instructor Luis Conte has been nominated for Best World Music Album for his work with Wu Man and Daniel Ho on Our World In Song. This marks the third nomination for Luis Conte, who won his first GRAMMY in 1995 for Best Contemporary Jazz Performance with the Pat Methany Group for their album We Live Here.

William Caballero 

Last but not least, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is nominated for a GRAMMY for their Best Orchestral Performance of Dvořák: Symphony No. 8; Janáček: Symphonic Suite From Jenůfa. Our congrats go out to our French Horn instructor, William Caballero, who is Principal Horn for the orchestra.
