Adam's Electric Country Guitar Review

After years of surveying instructional material regarding country guitar, I thought I pretty much had a handle on the idiom.
All the licks and tricks of Telecaster had long ceased to be a mystery and I was of the opinion that there wasn't much else to learn.
Having said that, I checked out Guthrie Trapp's Electric Country Guitar course through ArtistWorks about a year ago and it has had a SEISMIC effect on my country playing.
Guthrie's methods have totally reshaped my approach for the better and for the first time I honestly feel like a legit country guitarist.
First you have to start with the man himself: Guthrie is an authentic Nashville pro. This is not someone in their basement regurgitating someone else's licks for some online sales.
With Guthrie you have a guy with bonafide album credits and someone has performed and recorded with a long list of the greats: Brent Mason, Tommy Emmanuel, Paul Franklin, and Dierks Bentley among others.
Through my interactions with Guthrie via the Video Exchanges I have gotten an insider's perspective on how things are done in Nashville. Tone, phrasing and precision playing are a must. Those precious "licks and tricks" are eschewed in favor of true melodic improvisation through the chord changes. And most importantly, the song is king.
Let's be honest: how many people are actually making a living as a "country instrumental virtuoso"? If you want to play this music you are backing singers and have to always be aware of the melody and your place in the arrangement. What good are your solos if you can't play some rhythm guitar too, right?
Guthrie as an instructor and affable and ego-free. Even when I don't deliver my best effort in a Video Exchange he is patient and encouraging and always manages to nudge you back on track.
In summation, this isn't just the best online course for country guitar -- it's the only one you need.
