"Banjo Meets Mandolin" Workshop Recap
For anyone who missed it, here's an embed of our live workshop with Tony Trischka and Mike Marshall:
"Banjo Meets Mandolin"
After some introductions, Tony played a bit of "Fireball Mail" by the late great Earl Scruggs and then it was time for some mando playing from Mike Marshall, which is always a treat.
We also got to hear from some of the students about their experience taking lessons online at ArtistWorks.
"I started playing banjo maybe 16 months ago… something like that. I got myself a banjo for a Christmas present on spur of the moment, and fumbled around by myself for the better part of a year, then saw Tony and the rest of the New York State Banjo Symposium at a local venue and learned about the [online banjo lessons with Tony] there. I just absolutely love it, it's perfect for the way I like to work and learn and be independent but he's there trying to bring out the best in you, and nudging you along to stretch yourself. There's an absolute fount of historical knowledge about bluegrass and banjo, which I really enjoy too, because I didn't come from a bluegrass background." - Tom
Tony and Mike talked a bit about how their schools work, and also about what it's like playing together in their group Psychograss. You can tell they get a real thrill and excitement playing together. For anyone who has the opportunity, see these guys live - they are both masters of their respective instruments and do not dissapoint.
