Dj Clearcut Recaps the Meeting of Styles - Las Vegas 2012

Meeting of Styles - Las Vegas 2012
I was recently blessed with the opportunity to DJ at the “Meeting of Styles” (MOS) 2012 - Las Vegas Art Expo. It was an exciting thing to able to get down and skratch, as well as to share musical vibes and inspirations with the artists and supporters of the MOS.
The art expo took place within the Fremont District of downtown Las Vegas. Some friendly locals informed me of how life was like in the downtown area of Las Vegas prior to 2012. For years, pockets of the downtown area served as a dwelling for drug addicts and vagrants. Police arrests on a daily basis were a common scene.
Fortunately, a few individuals wanted to create change. Local artist Mr. RAS ONERZ (Pop2 Cultural Arts Center), and Mr. Caleb Aero (Aerosol Art Association), got together with the MOS team to spark the very first aerosol based art expo in Las Vegas. Their vision was to inspire others by providing artistic outlets and a safe and enriching environment for the Las Vegas downtown community.
The DJ booth was set in the heart of the “Bungalows”. The Bungalows was one of ten city blocks of where the art expo took place. Approximately 50 artists ‘bombed’ the walls and magically transformed the surrounding environment of the Bungalows as an expression of the collective creative energy. Despite the overbearing heat, the artists endured and blessed the community with beautiful, vibrant artwork.
I hosted the DJ booth for two days with fellow Qbert Skratch University student, David “Aziphrael” Perez. The two of us had a blast dishing out hard trap, soul, hip-hop, breaks, and of course skraching through the speakers.
The booth was immersed in the colorful, powerful, and dreamlike world of the aerosol artists. We met artists from LA, SD, SF, NY, Chile, Switzerland, and Africa. We also got to jam and cut with DJs from Salt Lake City (Street Jesus), San Diego (Sake), and Las Vegas (Inca-man).
The spirit of the MOS was definitely felt. It served as a playground for the inspired to meet, learn, and create as one. The joy and camaraderie of the artists and supporters at the MOS was infectious as many smiles, jokes, stories, and contacts were exchanged.
I excitedly share my first blog entry for QSU with this concluding thought: I feel that the spirit of the MOS and QSU inherently have the same philosophy. They each embody a positive environment and provide an educational platform for the inspired.
I had wonderful time experiencing the energy of the aerosol artists and their art. It has re-inspired to express myself in the art form that I care for dearly, turntablism. QSU has recently announced the search for their 2012 Valedictorian. I look forward to seeing the skratch styles of the inspired QSU students who strive for excellence.
Good luck to you all in your life pursuits, stay inspired!
