That Familiar Twangy Sound... Without Electricity!
My first guitar was not actually a guitar, but instead something that "Looks like a real electric instrument."
I did spend some very enjoyable hours jumping around in front of my mirror with it, but the "familiar twangy sound" advertised in the catalog was actually the sound of the strings fretting out on all-metal neck. It was my fifth birthday and my parents went for the complete package and bought the amplifier as well. It attached to the guitar with... a piece of yarn with a suction cup on the end. The result? No audible guitar sound, multiplied by yard and suction cup equals...
It's time to put on some Beatles and Led Zeppelin records and jump around in front of the mirror some more.
Now that I have a guitar that makes real sounds (some of them familiar and twangy), I'm really happy, and spending much less time with the mirror.
The Sears catalog brings back some good memories, but I must admit that the internet is an improvement.
