Hanneke Cassel Teaches a Celtic Fiddle Tune
In this two-part video lesson, Darol invites his good friend Hanneke Cassel to teach a well-loved Celtic fiddle tune, “Welcome to the Shetland Isles” by the Cape Breton Symphony.
Hanneke is widely known in Celtic fiddle music for her lively, cutting-edge sound which blends Scottish traditionalism with Americana. Her tactful playing has earned her numerous awards throughout her 20-plus-year-long career, including Berklee College of Music’s Strings Award. She has shared her own unique approach to Celtic fiddle with audiences all throughout the globe, performing and giving violin lessons in Scotland, Sweden, China, New Zealand, France, England and Austria.
When it comes to Celtic fiddle tunes, “Welcome to the Shetland Isles” uses the full range of the instrument. It is broken down into two parts, and is quite symmetrical. Full of cuts, flicks, and wiggles, you’ll have an absolute blast playing along with Hanneke here. Check out the full two-part video lesson below.
