There is a remarkable documentary on the history of sign language called "Our Fingers Were Angels." It outlines the pioneering work and the early years of the development of modern sign language. I highly recommend you see it and will provide extra credit if you write up a two page synopsis and reaction to the documentary.

It is showing on PBS this month so please check listings for convenient times.  This is one of the best resources as it goes into depth on the pivotal transition from early one finger signing to the advancement of three and ulitmately the five finger methods we use today.
