Our master bluegrass vocalist, Michael Daves, has to be one of the busiest bluegrass musicians both in the classroom and on the road. This past year at RockyGrass 2018 in Lyons, Colorado was no different for Michael as he stayed busy throughout the entire festival. In addition to playing his own set at the festival, a special set with the ArtistWorks Bluegrass All-Stars, and teaching classes at the Planet Bluegrass String Camp, Michael found the opportunity to sit down with up and coming guitarist and vocalist extraordinaire, Molly Tuttle for an exclusive interview!

Molly Tuttle is a fascinating musician. She is the first woman to win the IBMA for guitar player of the year in 2017, which is quite a distinction as it naturally secured her role in The First Ladies of Bluegrass ensemble comprised of legendary bluegrass musicians Missy Raines (bass), Alison Brown (banjo), Becky Buller (fiddle), and Sierra Hull (mandolin). Molly just released a new album at the beginning of the year titled, When You Are Ready, and continues to have a rigorous recording and touring schedule for her solo project.

Michael and Molly spend time discussing topics that range from her songwriting to the art of vocals. They dive into beneficial vocal warmups, and how to blend vocally with a group, musical influences, and playing a quick duet from Molly’s album Rise.
