We’re excited to announce that world-renowned mandolinists and ArtistWorks master mandolin instructors, Mike Marshall and Caterina Lichtenberg, will once again be taking their “Mandolin World Retreat” to Sicily, Italy this autumn. Hosted in the beautiful city of Siracusa on the island of Ortigia off the coast of Sicily, the retreat will feature four days and four nights of immersive mandolin music and fun-filled Italian vacationing from September 4-8, 2023.

As master mandolin instructors here at ArtistWorks, teaching bluegrass mandolin and classical mandolin respectively, Mike and Caterina have an amazing ability to target specific areas where students are struggling and provide step-by-step guidance to help them overcome their musical challenges. Their Mandolin World Retreat will offer a small number of students the opportunity to work hands-on with Mike and Caterina in person, and do so in gorgeous Siracusa, Sicily. “We’re looking forward to celebrating and playing music and our mandolins non-stop during the retreat,” Caterina explains. “And, Ortigia couldn’t be a better place to do so. It’s a beautiful little island surrounded by the water, rich with culture and delicious food.”

Caterina and Mike will be covering a vast array of musical styles and topics at the retreat including bluegrass, swing, jazz, Brazilian choro, improvisation, and chord theory to the entire history of classical mandolin techniques spanning 300 years.

“We’ll be hosting classes during the daytime, teaching all different styles of mandolin playing,” explains Mike. “And, at night, we’ll have our own little private cantina for jam sessions, where we’ll be enjoying plenty of music and delicious food and drink.”
