We’re excited to announce that world-renowned mandolinists and ArtistWorks master mandolin instructors, Mike Marshall and Caterina Lichtenberg, will once again be hosting their annual “Mandolin World Retreat” in Benicia, CA. This year, it will be over an extended, 3-day weekend from March 8-10, 2024.

As master mandolin instructors here at ArtistWorks, teaching bluegrass mandolin and classical mandolin respectively, Mike and Caterina have an amazing ability to target specific areas where students are struggling and provide step-by-step guidance to help them overcome their musical challenges. “We keep the size [of the Retreat] small so that all the attendees can really interact with us,” Mike and Caterina explain. “This gives everyone ample opportunity for questions, to work with us hands-on, and to discuss some of our favorite tips and tricks. All the while, we make sure to create a warm, energetic, and joy-filled learning environment.”

Caterina and Mike will be covering a vast array of musical styles and topics at the retreat including bluegrass, swing, jazz, Brazilian choro, improvisation, and chord theory to the entire history of classical mandolin techniques spanning 300 years.

“We started the Mandolin World Retreats as a way to create an intimate, relaxed environment where each mandolinist (no matter their level or style of player) could find inspiration, be propelled forward on their musical journey, and leave with some new music under their fingers,” Mike and Caterina explain. “We love to find that magic spot where you are being challenged but aren’t in over your head.”

Also joining Mike and Caterina at the retreat will be special guest instructors, Grammy-nominated mandolinist, David Benedict, and IBMA-nominated banjoist, Tabitha Agnew Benedict.
