Royal Northern College of Music Symphony Orchestra & Big Band
Last Saturday Martin Taylor and Guy Barker performed their "Spirit of Django Orchestral Suite" with the Royal Northern College of Music Symphony Orchestra & Big Band to a capacity audience at the RNCM Theatre in Manchester, England.
This is only the second time the piece has been performed in public, the debut concert was with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the Guy Barker Big Band at the Guitar Festival of Great Britain in November 2010.
Saturday's performance had an added educational element to it as the orchestra and big band was made up entirely of RNCM students who had been studying and practicing the piece for over six months. It's also the first time in the college's long history that the orchestra and big band have been brought together and played a concert on the same stage.
"This is a challenging piece for any musician to attempt to play, and the students played magnificently and made it a memorable and magical evening, I'm very proud of each and every one of them" said Martin
Martin and Guy plan to record the orchestral suite in October for a CD and have also been approached by several top symphony orchestras to perform the suite around the world.
