As part of a project to teach improvisation to my piano students at the 2017 Philadelphia International Music Festival, I gave each student a post-it note with instructions to write down one emotion. We then collected the "emotion notes", organized them, and then the students put together a script for a silent movie. Each student then performed their own improvised segment to accompany the 11 scenes of the movie. What a wonderful way to learn the joys of improvisation and "playing" piano!
