Bryan Sutton’s Bluegrass Acoustic Guitar Course: Additions & Updates
In 2011, we were ecstatic to welcome Grammy and IBMA Award-winning flatpick guitar virtuoso, Bryan Sutton, to our esteemed faculty of bluegrass instructors here at ArtistWorks. Since his bluegrass acoustic guitar course launched in 2011, Bryan has helped thousands of guitarists from around the globe improve their skills, grow as musicians, and deepen their love for the instrument and playing. We are honored and proud that Bryan is a member of our faculty and continues to embody what it means to be a music educator and a pillar of the ArtistWorks community.
Throughout the years, Bryan has continuously made small updates, additions, and refinements to his course content and curriculum. Today, however, we are excited to announce that we’ve partnered with Bryan to completely revamp and update all of the technique lesson videos in his entire course, expand his curriculum to include brand new material, and more.
“Over the last ten years, I’ve evolved and gotten better as a guitar player and gotten better as a teacher,” Bryan explains. “With the experience of teaching on the ArtistWorks platform as long as I have and conducting thousands of Video Exchanges, I thought it would be good to restructure some of the lessons and address some of the topics in more detail that I get asked about frequently.”
In his ten years as an ArtistWorks master instructor, Bryan has worked directly with thousands of players from around the world and conducted more than 9,000 Video Exchanges to provide personal feedback to his students at every step of their musical journey.
“My goal with these updates wasn’t to just re-do my ArtistWorks curriculum,” Bryan explains. “With this refresh, I was able to better align the curriculum with the common Video Exchange topics I’ve addressed over the years and the conversations that I’m currently having with my students. It also allowed me to expand greatly on topics like improvisation, rhythm guitar playing, and understanding the fretboard.”
With the updates and additions to Bryan’s course, students will now be able to dive into brand new lessons covering an array of topics like rhythm guitar playing, improvisation, musical mindfulness and listening, fretboard mapping, and more. For instance, Bryan has added an entirely new section of lessons called the “Rhythm Guitar Toolbox” that details his philosophy on rhythm guitar playing and provides critical rhythm guitar concepts designed for players of all levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced.
He also expanded many of his sub-sets of lessons to cover topics such as Building Fretboard Fluency, Adding Attitude to Your Playing, Critical Listening, and Melody Awareness When Improvising. Bryan even added an entire series of lessons on mindfulness and his philosophies on music, complete with practice exercises and tools to improve your ear and holistic musicianship.
As an ArtistWorks instructor, Bryan has had the opportunity to meet, mentor, and guide a vast array of acoustic guitar players worldwide, and help guitarists of all levels grow as musicians and flatpickers. With the new updates and additions to his course, he’s guaranteed to take his teaching to an entirely new level.
“I’m really excited about this,” Bryan explains. “As an artist, I always want to improve and share more new music with the world. As an instructor, I want to do the same. I’m coming into this with a lot of energy.”
