The Dave Stryker Trio Opening for Steely Dan's Summer Tour

This month, award-winning master guitarist and ArtistWorks jazz guitar instructor, Dave Stryker, will join the members of his trio as they open for legendary rock and jazz fusion band, Steely Dan, on their "Earth After Hours" summer tour. The tour’s twenty-five show series will run from late June through mid-August and will be held in cities throughout the eastern United States.

Comprised of critically acclaimed organist, Jared Gold, Grammy-nominated drummer, McClenty Hunter, and, of course, Dave on the guitar, the Dave Stryker Trio showcases an exciting mix of Dave’s original compositions as well as traditional jazz standards performed in a streamlined, three-piece context. With over 34 albums to his name as a bandleader and dozens more as a featured sideman, Dave has a near endless assortment of critically-acclaimed compositions in his repertoire, all of which set the stage beautifully for Steely Dan’s eclectic mix of jazz-inspired rock ‘n’ roll.

As with most traditional organ trios, Dave supplies a bulk of the melodic content while Jared performs walking bass lines and much of the supporting harmony on the organ. With McClenty providing a lush rhythmic foundation, the three artists create a progressive, yet simultaneously nostalgic, sound that’s both amazingly unique and comfortingly familiar.

“I am looking forward to hitting the road this summer opening up for one of my favorite bands, Steely Dan,” Dave expresses. “I’ll be joined by my long-time trio mates Jared Gold on organ and McClenty Hunter on drums. Hope to see you out there!”
