Classical Guitarist Jason Vieaux's Spring Update
Classical guitarist Jason Vieaux has kept himself busy this spring with riveting performances and masterclasses across the country. He has played recitals with Billboard top-selling violinist Anne Akiki Meyers and master harpist Yolanda Kondonassis, and will be making a debut appearance with Knoxville Symphony on its Masterworks Series later this month performing Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez with conductor Aram Demirjian.
In March, Jason joined Anne Akiko Meyers at the beautiful Green Music Center at Sonoma State University for a joint program which included music by Corelli, Philip Glass, Astor Piazzolla, John Corigliano, and Manuel De Falla. Jason and Anne also played a sold-out show presented by Parlance Chamber Concerts in Ridgewood, NJ.
Other recent highlights this spring include performances with Symphony in C (Camden, NJ), San Luis Obispo Symphony, and Elgin Symphony; solo concerts presented by Apex Concerts, The Clarion at Brazosport College, UNLV Performing Arts Center, and the Virginia Arts Festival, and duo recitals with harpist Yolanda Kondonassis at SUNY Potsdam and Mesa Arts Center.
Jason's world premiere recording of Jonathan Leshnoff's Guitar Concerto with Giancarlo Guerrero and the Nashville Symphony is out today on Naxos Records. Jason shared some thoughts on the concerto, which he calls “an exhilarating and virtuosic addition to the repertoire.”
Jason also has two upcoming releases on Azica Records: a new album with the Escher String Quartet, featuring Boccherini's Guitar Quintet, Castelnuovo-Tedesco's Guitar Quintet, and Aaron Jay Kernis' 100 Greatest Dance Hits; as well as a new solo Bach album.
Jason will be keeping an equally busy schedule this summer with highlights to include performances at the 19th annual Cleveland International Classical Guitar Festival, Le Domaine Forget International Festival, Museum of Fine Arts (St. Petersburg, FL), Eastern Music Festival, and Music from Angel Fire. On July 19 and 26, Jason will join the Carmel Bach Festival Orchestra and conductor Paul Goodwin for Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez and the world premiere of Mark Mancina's Guitar Concerto, based on themes from Twisterand other Mancina film scores.
