Live with George Whitty, Martin Taylor, and Special Guests Julian Lage and Joe Locke

In this week’s installment of our live streamed series “Live Dispatch from Home,” ArtistWorks’ CEO and Co-founder Patricia Butler will host ArtistWorks jazz piano instructor George Whitty, fingerstyle jazz guitar master teacher Martin Taylor, and special guests Julian Lage and Joe Locke for an afternoon discussion, “Exploring the Styles of Jazz.” These four musical masters will be taking a deep dive into the rich culture of jazz, discussing the genre's many unique complexities and nuances, and will be rounding out the discussion with some amazing live musical performances.

Jazz pianist and Grammy-winning producer and performer, George Whitty has had an illustrious 25-year career sharing the stage and recording with some of the biggest names in jazz, pop, and R&B, including Herbie Hancock, The Brecker Brothers, David Sanborn, Richard Bona, Chaka Khan, Santana, Celine Dion, and more.

George will be joined by fellow ArtistWorks master teacher and fingerstyle jazz guitar virtuoso, Dr. Martin Taylor, MBE. A Grammy-nominated guitarist and recipient of a record 14 British Jazz Awards, Martin is widely considered to be one of the preeminent masters of solo jazz and fingerstyle guitar playing and has performed and recorded with countless musical greats including Jeff Beck, Tommy Emmanuel, Bill Wyman, Chet Atkins, Stephane Grappelli, David Grisman, George Harrison, Gary Burton, and more.

Joining the conversation alongside ArtistWorks master teachers George Whitty and Martin Taylor will be special guests Julian Lage and Joe Locke. Hailing from Santa Rosa, CA, 33-year-old Julian Lage is a three-time Grammy-nominated jazz guitar prodigy who began performing professionally at the age of 7. Julian has shared the stage with jazz giants like Herbie Hancock, Gary Burton, Eric Harland, and more, and has appeared on dozens of recordings as both a bandleader and a guest.

Five-time recipient of the JJA Awards’ “Mallet Instrumentalist of the Year” and two-time winner of “Mallet Player of the Year,” virtuoso vibraphonist Joe Locke has performed and recorded with distinguished artists ranging from Ron Carter, Kenny Barron, and Cecil Taylor to Grover Washington Jr., The Beastie Boys, and the Münster Symphony Orchestra.

Join us for a great conversation on all things jazz and, of course, fantastic musical performances this Thursday, April 1, 2021 at 12:00 pm PT on our Facebook page.
