Martin Taylor: How to Play ‘If I Only Had You’
Fingerstyle guitar icon Martin Taylor teaches you how to play “If I Only Had You.”
With over 50 years of experience under his belt, Martin is considered a pillar of the fingerstyle community. His earliest musical credits can be attributed to performing in his father William 'Buck' Taylor’s band as a child, when he was just eight years old. Martin would later go on to perform with legendary jazz violinist Stéphane Grappelli and his band, releasing 1984’s We've Got the World on a String.

In this video Martin Taylor shows you how to apply his ‘scaffolding of 10ths’ to learn how to play ‘If I Only Had you’ on guitar. “The tenths in the arrangement function like the left hand of a piano player,” Martin explains. “You can build off of the arrangement and add expressive qualities, rather than trying to imitate what I’m playing note for note.” Learn all this and more about Martin Taylor's approach to playing jazz guitar, in this and his many other ArtistWorks video lessons!
