Moving Again!
I'm pleased to tell you that I'm out of the sling, and able to move my arm again! I don't have full range of motion just yet, but I will get there! My bones are healing nicely, and now a large part of my recovery is working out the 'tightness' of my muscles in my shoulder and arm and back that became very short and very tight during my time of 'non-use'.
It was hard to not use my arm for that long, and it was a little depressing, too! It's amazing what things I took for granted that one does with 2 arms and some flexibility... But now I know I did the right thing but allowing nature to do it's thing and my 'patience' is paying off.
But this whole experience has taught me so much. Being more aware of how my body feels at any given moment has been a huge plus, recognizing how we react to every day situations (driving in traffic, typing at your computer, wishing the line at the grocery store was going faster...) with tensing up our shoulders, hanging our heads forward, tightening our necks, etc. All very subtle moves, hardly perceivable, unless you are thinking about it. I think tuning into this kind of 'body language' can be a powerful tool to use when we are playing bass. Being self aware can help your form and tone at so many levels.
I sure am going to try to maintain this new approach long after I can successfully do cart wheels again. well, I guess if I couldn't do cart wheels before the break, then I probably can't do 'em now... Oh well!
Thanks! Missy
