This morning, we published three brand new online guitar lessons on Bryan Sutton’s bluegrass guitar course at ArtistWorks.

In these new lessons, world-renowned flatpick guitar master and one of the longest-standing members of our premier ArtistWorks faculty, Bryan Sutton, teaches the classic bluegrass standard “Long Journey Home,” also commonly referred to in bluegrass jam sessions as “Two Dollar Bill” or “Lost All My Money.” Bryan created unique arrangements for all levels along with a breakdown of the rhythm for players to get familiar with the song form. So, regardless of your current skill level, you can learn this classic tune, incorporate it into your repertoire, and bring it to your next jam session with friends!

For each lesson, Bryan demonstrates a play-through at a slow practice tempo, then breaks down the unique arrangement piece-by-piece, providing ideas along the way for students to try out and make the tune their own. Lastly, Bryan plays “Long Journey Home” again up to speed to establish a goal tempo that students can work up to.

Bryan provides play-along backing tracks at 5 different tempos for each lesson, so students can start very slow and incrementally work up to faster playing speeds. Tablature and notation are provided for each arrangement, and performance isolation videos in full-screen views from 3 unique angles are available as well. Students can also adjust the playback speed of all the videos and backing tracks and set custom loops to fully tailor the practice experience to their needs.

In the advanced lesson, Bryan performs 2 improvisations over the “Long Journey Home” chord progression. These solos are both tabbed out note-for-note and Bryan outlines his process for improvising each performance. This lesson provides an inside look at Bryan’s on-the-fly approach to improvisation and his thought process when soloing over a tune.
