To become a master musician, especially in the jazz realm, you have to be committed to being a lifelong student. Practicing upwards of 8 hours per day is no rarity among dedicated jazz players. However, as with most things that require prolonged daily focus and attention, sometimes it can be difficult to stay motivated and inspired to pick up your instrument and practice.
“Sometimes if you feel that practicing is drudgery and something you don’t want to do, you’re not alone,” Dave explains. “That’s common for a lot of us. But, there are so many ways to get over that hump.”
Whether you’re a beginner, intermediate, or advanced player, Dave has specific techniques to help musicians of all levels stay motivated and inspired to pick up their instrument and practice.
“The most important thing is that you’re consistent,” Dave explains. “If you only have a half hour or an hour a day to practice, make sure to use it. On a technical level, it’s important for us guitar players to keep our fingers moving.”
