For Peter “learning how to create an outline for your drum fills and finding creative ways to fill in the spaces" is key to making your drum fills shine and add to the beauty of the groove.
“As you start to add 5 stroke rolls, 6 stroke rolls, or even septuplet patterns, it’s easy to come out of the fill on the wrong beat even if your hi-hat stays on tempo,” Peter explains, “which is why it's important to practice this with a metronome.”
