Tips for a Better Practice Routine: Darol Anger
Welcome back to the latest episode of the ArtistWorks Music Series podcast! This week, ArtistWorks CEO Patricia Butler sits down with ArtistWorks fiddle master Darol Anger to discuss how to create a roadmap to a more effective practice routine that will take your playing to the next level. The show is available now anywhere you listen to podcasts, or you can listen here on our site.
For Darol the trick to creating a quality roadmap for effective practicing is to set both long term and short term goals. “An example of a short term goal, ” Darol explains, “could be to, for instance, commit to perfecting the intro of a song you've been working on before the end of a practice session.”
Long term goals often take on a more lofty form; some examples Darol gives include becoming more comfortable playing fast, or to improve your ability to lock in with a group you're playing with.
On the ArtistWorks Music Series, Butler speaks with master musicians across all genres as they dive deep into topics like becoming a musician, playing at the professional level, and the journey of learning music. Over the coming weeks, we'll be spotlighting many artists and discussing all sorts of instruments and topics:
Exploring the Styles of Jazz: George Whitty - March 31st
Exploring the Styles of Blues: Keith Wyatt - April 14th
