Dont #6 is a great etude for
practicing fourth finger articulation and
lightness fourth finger endurance and
finger prep.
Because, like so many other etudes,
you really need to be putting three
fingers down at once.
[MUSIC]
If you're trying to adjust your first
finger, or put it down after the fact,
you're gonna be slow and the intonation's
gonna suffer.
[MUSIC]
So, you wanna have them down at once.
[MUSIC]
You wanna make sure that you're reaching
back for the first finger, so that your
frame is based on those upper fingers.
This is a great etude to practice with the
dotted rhythms.
[MUSIC].
Again, they have to very quick dotted
rhythms to be helpful.
You can practice this one with more notes
slurred than is marks.
[MUSIC].
And, this is a great one also to practice
left-hand pizzicato.
[MUSIC]
In fact, you'll find that a little bit of
left hand pizz is a nice addition even to
a normal performance of this etude,
because it's natural finger articulation.
So, when you're playing it normally,
it's a nice way to train that lateral
finger movement.
