[MUSIC].
For Oh, Come All Ye Faithful we'll be
looking at mixing slurs
with separate bows and especially playing
both high twos and
low twos making those quite different from
each other.
All while making a, a smooth tone.
For this one we're going to distribute the
bow similarly as we have before.
Half notes gonna get the whole bow and a
quarter note will get half the bow.
So that means that to start this tune
start right in
the middle of the bow for your up bow.
[MUSIC].
And etc.
Three after A.
You've got a low two, and so
that's gonna touch right up against the
first finger, and right up against.
So that will set you on lifetime habit of
making your low twos and
high twos very different from each other
because surprisingly.
A lot of people who played a lot of years
start to get those two things a little
bit in the middle, and that makes for some
unsatisfying intonation.
Two bars after that low two, you've got it
high.
And that tucks right up against the third
finger.
So from the third bar
[MUSIC].
And if you see there I put the high
tube down with the third finger
[MUSIC].
In fact I put all three fingers down at
once right in their spots.
So I've got no space at all in between two
and three.
I've got a big space in between one and
two.
And that just makes it much easier to stay
in tune and it helps the hands start to.
Remember what these shapes feel like.
This is one shape with a high two.
This is a very different shape, not so
different, but it's a different feel with
a low two.
You can see just how far the two moves
between those two different hand shapes.
And that's a great thing to start building
into your muscle memory.
As far as the bowing, two bars before B
to go along with the words, Bethlehem.
[MUSIC].
That's a hooked bowing not a slur so
the bow slows down even stops just for a
second.
[MUSIC].
Before the open D.
And then just after that letter B your
third finger should match
the open string you just played.
[MUSIC]
Bow circle.
[MUSIC]
And, of course,
you can check if it matched.
[MUSIC]
By playing it with the open string.
Just at letter C.
The pick up to that bar is the start of a
new phrase, and, you know,
we're it's, it's early days in learning
the violin tunes here.
But it's not too early to start thinking
about phrases because.
When you speak and when you sing, you
always speak and sing in phrases.
And so, it wouldn't make any sense, if I
start to before C,
it wouldn't make any sense to play.
[MUSIC].
>> Just to go right through it, with, with
no change at all, because that's.
When you would start to sing, oh come let
us.
And so, just in a subtle way, we show that
when we play.
[MUSIC]
So the bow stops
before the pickup to C.
[MUSIC]
Same there.
I don't just play.
[MUSIC]
I phrase a little bit.
Just to remind myself of the song that
this came from.
Finally, the last note of this tune is a
whole note.
And, therefore, the bow is going to move
more slowly than it has for
the other notes just so that you can hold
it four beats.
[MUSIC].
