About Your Teacher
Bryan Sutton is arguably the best flatpick guitarist since the late great Doc Watson. Born near Asheville, NC, Bryan first got started playing guitar at the age of 8 when his dad, also a guitarist, started to teach him. He first became known as a part of Ricky Skaggs' bluegrass band Kentucky Thunder and later went on to be the guitarist for the legendary bluegrass band Hot Rize. Aside from his solo career, Bryan continues to appear on numerous recordings as a leading session guitarist with everyone from Rhonda Vincent, the Dixie Chicks, Taylor Swift, Dolly Parton, and many more. Bryan won a Grammy in 2007, and has been honored as IBMA’s ‘Guitarist of the Year’ in 2000, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2011, 2014, and 2015. In 2011 he was also named ‘Specialty Instrument Player of the Year’ at the Annual Academy of Country Music Awards.
