Beginner Acoustic Guitar For Adults: Taking Lessons, or Not

Taking Lessons...or not!

Maybe you’re new to playing acoustic guitar or have been “noodling” for a long time. For most players, there comes a time when you’re not entirely sure if what you’re doing is right. Some people can live with that uncertainty and others seek assurance. Deciding to get some guidance can feel like a bigger commitment and more stress than a beginner guitar player might be willing to make.  Just the word “lessons” can evoke the same tension and attitude we’ve had toward “school”, “homework” and “rules”. But it doesn’t have to be that way. As an adult, you can dedicate however much time you want to learn guitar. But your musical expectations and instruction will need to be reflective of the time you’re going to set aside as well as your approach to learning.

Want to learn beginner guitar? Try a few free acoustic guitar lessons now!

In this new video below from David Butler, teacher of the ArtistWorks “Beginner’s Guide to Acoustic Guitar”, he’ll share some perspective on taking guitar lessons - or not. David will also walk you through what instructional format might best suit your learning style and musical expectations.

Playing an instrument is more enjoyable if you play it well. Being able to execute the most basic skills and techniques are pivotal to learning to play the music you love. Some helpful instruction will get you there.

Note: In our next blog and video in this series, we’ll talk about “Choosing the Best Guitar Teacher” to suit your learning style and musical goals.
