New Lessons Added to Stu Hamm’s Electric Bass Course
This morning, we published four brand new online bass lessons on Stu Hamm’s electric bass course at ArtistWorks.
In these new lessons, world-renowned powerhouse of the low-end and legendary bassist for Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, and more, Stu Hamm, expands on pentatonic scale topics he covered in the course’s introductory section and also teaches new tunes from his most recent album release, Hold Fast.
In Stu’s previous new lesson release, he published detailed instructional videos for beginner players outlining critical concepts connected to the pentatonic scale. The new lessons published today include the next installment in this series—moving into more intermediate-level instruction and looking specifically at pentatonic inversions.
Stu also provides lessons on two tunes from his recent album release, Hold Fast—“Flotsam & Jetsam” and “To Mainframe!” There have already been beginner lessons in Stu’s course outlining the primary 6/8 groove for “Flotsam & Jetsam” for some time. However, in these new intermediate lessons, Stu teaches students how to begin incorporating the same major and minor 10th voicings that he performs on the album to fill out the song’s harmonic flavor.
"To Mainframe!" is taught in two installments—the first part covers the main slapping groove, which is an exciting workout for intermediate players, while the second installment covers the advanced tapping lines Stu plays on the album.
Alongside Stu’s video instruction, these new lessons include fresh learning materials to supplement Stu’s teaching—including tablature, notation, play-along backing tracks, and more. In fact, the play-along backing tracks for “Flotsam & Jetsam” and “To Mainframe!” are the board mixes from the actual Hold Fast album with the bass removed. So, you can play along with the members of Stu’s real band—the legendary Alex Skolnick on guitar and Joel Taylor on drums!
All the performances are offered in 3 camera angle isolations with tools to slow down and speed up the videos and a complete analysis from Stu.
